Careers
Four open roles.
We are small and senior, which means a new person changes how the place works. We hire slowly and we would rather leave a role open than fill it badly.
Software Engineering Intern — Full Stack
Ship real features on live client systems from week one, with proper code review and a named engineer responsible for your progress.
Content Producer — Editorial, Video & Audio
Own everything we publish, in every format — long-form writing, video, audio, motion and the social cuts that come off them.
Social Media & Community Lead
Own strategy, distribution and community across our channels and our clients' — with a technical subject you are expected to understand.
Business Development Lead
Open and qualify conversations for an engineering firm that publishes its rates and turns work down.
01 / Working here
What this is actually like.
- Small and senior
- Engagements are run by a small team rather than a pyramid. That means more responsibility earlier, and nowhere to hide — both of which suit some people and not others.
- On-site, Zirakpur
- All four roles are based at our office on the Ambala–Chandigarh Expressway. We are not a remote-first company; the work benefits from being in a room together.
- You will be reviewed
- Code, writing and proposals all get reviewed properly. This is the fastest way to get better and it is not always comfortable.
- We say no to work
- We turn down projects we do not think we should build. If that sounds like lost revenue rather than good practice, this will be a frustrating place to work.
- Languages
- We work in English, Hindi and Punjabi. Strong written English matters for every one of these roles.

Ship real features on live client systems from week one, with proper code review and a named engineer responsible for your progress.
This is not a shadowing internship. You will pick up real tickets on live client work, your code will be reviewed properly, and what you build will ship.
It is a good fit if you have built something end to end — however small — and can explain why you made the decisions you made. It is a poor fit if you are looking for a certificate at the end of a fixed number of weeks.
- Building features across the stack: data model, backend, API and interface.
- Writing tests for what you build, and fixing what they catch.
- Reading existing code and working out how it fits together before changing it.
- Sitting in on client calls, so you can see where requirements actually come from.
- Working knowledge of at least one backend language and one frontend framework.
- Comfortable with Git, and with being reviewed.
- Something you have built that you can walk us through — a project, a tool, a contribution. Coursework counts if you can defend the design.
- Willing to say 'I don't know' and then go and find out.
- Exposure to SQL beyond the basics.
- Any experience with a cloud provider, containers or CI.
- Curiosity about how machine learning systems fail, not just how they work.

Own everything we publish, in every format — long-form writing, video, audio, motion and the social cuts that come off them.
This is the broadest role we are hiring for, and deliberately so. We would rather have one person who can take an idea from a conversation with an engineer all the way to a published article, a two-minute film and a week of short-form cuts, than three people passing files between them.
The subject matter is technical and the audience is not forgiving. Our clients are engineers and operators who stop reading the moment something is hand-waved, so you will be expected to actually understand what you are producing — which means asking our engineers questions until you do.
You will own the pipeline end to end: what gets made, how it is shot and cut, where it goes, and what it did. Not executing someone else's storyboard.
- Writing long-form: insight articles, case studies, service pages and client material, to a standard that survives a technical reader.
- Filming and editing video — client interviews, case-study films, product walkthroughs and explainers — including the vertical cuts for Reels, Shorts and TikTok.
- Editing audio: podcast episodes, voiceover, interview cleanup, levelling and noise reduction.
- Motion and graphics: titles, lower thirds, animated diagrams, thumbnails and social cards.
- Subtitling and captions in English and Hindi, which is most of the reason social video gets watched at all.
- Repurposing deliberately — one interview becoming an article, a film, a carousel and a fortnight of clips, rather than four separate briefs.
- Running the content calendar and the asset library, so nothing is shot twice.
- Interviewing our engineers and clients on camera and getting usable answers.
- Owning search performance for what you publish: structure, internal linking and what we choose to write about in the first place.
- A portfolio with both writing and video in it — we need to see both, and they should be your own work end to end.
- Fluent in a video editor: Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut. We do not mind which; we do mind that you are quick in it.
- Competent audio editing — cleanup, levelling and mixing to a consistent loudness, in Audition, Resolve Fairlight, Audacity or equivalent.
- Comfortable operating a camera and a microphone: framing, exposure, and getting clean sound in a room that was not built for it.
- Genuinely good written English. You will be writing, not just approving.
- The research discipline to get a technical subject right, and the honesty to flag when you have not.
- Motion graphics — After Effects or Resolve Fusion.
- Design tooling: Figma, Illustrator or Canva for social and thumbnail work.
- Colour grading beyond a LUT.
- Hindi and Punjabi alongside English, for captions and on-camera interviews.
- Photography, or any experience directing people who are nervous on camera.
- A background in something technical, or a track record writing for one.
04 / Commercial
Business Development Lead

- On-site, Zirakpur

Open and qualify conversations for an engineering firm that publishes its rates and turns work down.
This is a harder and more interesting sell than most. We publish our rate card, we recommend against building things, and we will not promise an accuracy figure before seeing the data. You will need to be comfortable selling on that basis — it wins the right clients and loses the wrong ones early.
Qualification matters more than volume here. A prospect who is not a fit is a cost to both sides, and spotting that in the first call is a large part of the job.
- Building pipeline in India and in our international markets.
- Running first conversations: understanding the problem well enough to know whether it is one we should take.
- Working with the engineers on scoping and proposals — not writing them alone.
- Owning the commercial relationship through to a signed statement of work.
- A track record selling technical or professional services, B2B.
- Enough technical literacy to hold a scoping conversation without a translator.
- Willingness to disqualify a prospect and explain why.
- Clear written English; much of this happens over email.
- An existing network in one of our sectors.
- Experience with longer, multi-stakeholder sales cycles.
06 / Applying
How it works.
Four steps, no take-home that takes a weekend.
Email sales@theblutrain.com with the role in the subject line, a CV, and a short note on why this role rather than a generic one. For engineering, include something you have built. For the writing and marketing roles, include work we can read.
A short call to check fit both ways, then a longer technical or portfolio conversation with the people you would work with, then a conversation about terms. We aim to give a decision within two weeks of the first call, and to tell you either way.
For the engineering role, a small exercise timeboxed to about two hours — and we will discuss what you wrote rather than score it silently. We do not ask candidates to do unpaid work that resembles client delivery.
We discuss it on the first call rather than publishing a band, and we will not ask you to name a number first. If the range does not work for you, better that both of us know in the first twenty minutes.
Yes. The 'looking for' list is what the role needs; the 'useful, not required' list is genuinely optional. If you match most of the first list, apply and tell us how you would close the gap.
Yes, and we read them. Tell us what you do and what you want to work on. We will be straight about whether there is anything now.
Next step
None of these, but still interested?
Write to sales@theblutrain.com and tell us what you would want to work on. We would rather hear from good people early than advertise later.
03 / Marketing
Social Media & Community Lead
Own strategy, distribution and community across our channels and our clients' — with a technical subject you are expected to understand.
This role is the strategy and distribution half of our marketing; the Content Producer is the craft half. You decide what belongs on which channel, when, and for whom — then you own what it did.
Our audience can tell within a sentence whether the person posting understands the subject, so this suits someone who wants to learn the substance rather than paraphrase a brief.
